Originally made for chawanmushi — the delicate Japanese steamed egg custard traditionally prepared and served in individual lidded cups — this is one of those wonderfully versatile pieces of Japanese tableware that easily finds a new purpose in a modern home.
Use it at the table for salt, yoghurt and granola, fruit, olives, nuts, dips or little side dishes. The lid also makes it particularly lovely for serving something you want to keep warm.
Away from mealtimes, it makes a beautiful bonbonnière for chocolates, sweets or after-dinner treats. Or use it as a small lidded vessel for jewellery and other little treasures.
The wonderfully earthy glaze moves between toasted brown and muted moss green, with natural variations that give the surface an almost landscape-like quality.
Made in Japan.
