A traditional Japanese uchiwa fan, handmade in Japan from natural bamboo and hemp. The softly textured, off-white hemp is decorated with a playful Nishikigoi (Japanese koi fish) pattern, with stylised red and black carp appearing to swim across the surface.
Lightweight and beautiful to hold, the uchiwa is traditionally used to create a gentle breeze during Japan’s warm summer months. Its graphic design also makes it a lovely decorative object — hang it on the wall as a small piece of Japanese textile art, or display it on a shelf alongside ceramics and other favourite objects.
